Technology Plan Evaluation
240:237 Coordinating Technology in an Educational Setting
70 points

You have had the opportunity to evaluate the technological maturity of your sample educational environment. This has hopefully provided you with the background to evaluate the existing technology plan.

Your present task is to use your present knowledge of the environment and the EDmin Technology Planning Analysis Rubric to evaluate your educational institution's technology model. (BTW: The TUP abbreviation in the rubric means Technology Use Plan)

As you make your analysis, consider what you know about your educational institution. Does the technology plan reflect the level of technical maturity that you identified in your past evaluation? You know the levels of technology implementation/representation you would like to see in the plan but do you perceive your institution to be at a technology maturity level where it is reasonable to expect this? Are there conditions in the institution/district (such as high faculty/staff instability, high student transiency, or ??) that may prevent it from reaching the next level? If so, what are they and why will they create barriers?

This analysis process is in preparation for the final project in which you will rewrite/update your educational institution's present technology plan to achieve the maximum level of comprehensiveness. While you are only being asked to evaluate the technology plan's present condition at this time, consider how you would rewrite/restructure the plan to meet the levels expected in the Technology Planning Analysis Rubric.

Process:

1. Carefully read the whole EDmin Technology Planning Analysis Rubric. It is important for you to become completely familiar with the rubric before you attempt this assignment.

2. Using your newly developed knowledge, use the EDmin Technology Planning Analysis Rubric to analyze your educational institution's technology plan. This means that for each Criteria, identify the Level of Comprehensiveness that best describes the technology plan.

3. After completing the Analysis Rubric, create supporting documentation:

You will NOT have to submit the Analysis Rubric. Include your rating in the explanation you provide for the reasoning behind your analysis in each of the following criteria areas. Explain what you found and how you would improve each area. Some of your answers may be only a couple of sentences and some of them may require a few paragraphs to explain your reasoning fully. (You will notice that some of the criteria have been grouped to make documentation easier:)
  • Introductory paragraph(s): Identify background information about the Technology Plan: (When it was last updated, how actively is it followed, etc.)
  • Plan development support (contributions and process)
  • Needs assessment
  • Mission, vision, goals and objectives
  • Action plans
  • Integration (program and curriculum)
  • Evaluation
  • Multiyear planning
  • Standards (equipment, gifts, and disposal)
  • Funding alternatives
  • Research and development (school pilot projects)
  • Educational research
  • Model classroom configurations
  • Facilities
  • Maintenance and Support (repair, replacement, technical help, and staff development)
  • Policies (software agreements, copyright and acceptable use policies)
  • Summary paragraph(s): Overall assessment of the plan, how does it fit your evaluation of the educational institution, what unique situations do you see in your educational institution?

Submit:
As an attachment to a WebCT email, submit:

  • Your assessment in Word document format. (DO NOT include your Analysis Rubric. It was merely a tool for your use. You have included your ratings in the documentation anyway.)
