Meet with Client/Submit Concept Paper
240:205 Instructional Computing Design
20 points

Before you can seriously begin on your project, you have to meet with your client (or friendly critic) to discuss the project. Remember that you are working to please the client. You must discuss your client's initial perception of the project and then begin designing what you "thought" the client wanted. I say this using a tentative tense because creating a product for another person is an on-going formative process that doesn't end until you deliver the project. You will consult with the client along the way, but it WILL be a continuous process until the end.

As the first phase of developing this interactive multimedia product, you will meet with your client (or friendly critic). It is assumed that the client has an idea about what s/he needs/wants for an instructional product. If you are actually developing this for your own use, it is assumed that you have selected a friendly critic who teaches in a similar situation as yours and has adequate background to help you design this product.

You must begin by defining the scope of your project. Identify the desired outcomes. Who is to learn what and at what level of competence. What medium is to be used and how will it be applied.

You must write a concept paper that:
  • identifies your client or critical friend (and his/her background);
  • establishes the concept scope for the project;
  • identifies the content standards that will be addressed;
  • identifies the expected outcomes (who is to learn what and at what level of competence).
  • identifies the intended audience (not as specifically as the constraint form you will complete next); and
  • identifies the medium.

Complete this paper and submit it to Dr. Z. as an attachment to a WebCT email. Place "Concept Paper" in the heading so it can receive the proper
attention.
